BaBEEs are photographed between 4 to 21 days old. The session may take place after this time as well, however, newborns are typically easiest to pose and soothe during this period... the sooner we get the photos done, the better! Newborn photoshoots take place in our cozy studio which is fully equipped with backdrops, props, outfits and everything else needed for the session... all you have to do is show up with the baby!

Frequently Asked Questions

When is the ideal time to do the session?

It's recommended to do your newborn session between 4 to 21 days old. The session may take place after this time as well, however, babies are typically easiest to pose and soothe during this period... the sooner we get the photos done, the better!

Note: Newborn sessions can be done up to 3 months old but it's important to keep in mind that the types of photos we are able to achieve may be different than a typical "sleepy" newborn pose.

What should my baby and the rest of the family wear?

For what to wear, I suggest to bring 1-2 outfits for each family member that colour coordinates with 1-2 outfits for the baby. I have many props, headbands/hats, and wraps for newborns... this is usually what we use most in a session. The backdrops used for family portraits are neutrals (so pretty much any outfit colours you decide would be fine). Avoid: too many heavy patterns, clashing colours, or clothing with visible writing/big logos.

What poses/types of photos will we be taking?

For the majority of the session, your baby will be wrapped in a swaddle to keep them warm, cozy, and happy. We can also do some more simple/natural poses (unwrapped). If you have ideas of what you'd like from the pictures, you can send or bring examples of photoshoots you've seen, whether from my page or another source. Please keep in mind that, while all ideas are welcomed, I will work within my style of photography. Baby safety is our #1 priority; we will only do poses that are comfortable and safe for your little one.

What should I bring to my newborn session?

Sometimes families have special objects (like a blanket or stuffed animal) for the baby which you can bring to be photographed as well. Other than that, just bring some milk (if not breastfed) and anything else that may help soothe during the session, like a pacifier. I highly suggest bringing a pacifier even if you do not reqularly use it!

What do you have at the studio?

The studio is fully equipped for your little ones. There is a washroom, changing table, diaper bags for stink bombs, steamer for clothing wrinkles, hot water to warm bottles, mini fridge, snacks for the baby's older sibling(s), phone chargers, hair brush, wipes and more! Please bring your own diapers and pacifier.

What happens if I need to feed my baby?

You are welcome to breastfeed or bottlefeed your baby at ANY point before, during, or even after your session as needed. It is recommended to try to feed your baby right before leaving the house, so that they will be ready to be photographed once you arrive (if possible).

How long will the session be?

Newborn sessions can take anvwhere from 1 to 3h. My sessions are not timed; we will go at the baby's speed and follow their lead. If the baby needs to feed or they are fussy and need to be soothed, the session may take longer. I always ensure that we get enough photos before you leave, and that we capture as many poses/set-ups as you'd like. On average, you will spend at least 2h at the studio, please plan your day and pack accordingly.

What should parents do during the session?

"All you have to do is show up with the baby; I will take care of the rest" Seriously! Take a nap, scroll through your phone, sit back & relax. You are welcome to watch from up close, take behind the scenes photos, or you can get comfy and observe from a distance. If I need your help, I will let you know.. don't feel like you "need" to do anything... it's all part of my job!

How many set-ups can I choose?

There is no set limit on the number of backdrops or wrap colours you can choose. We will do as many as you'd like, within reason. In general, we can get at least 3-5 different set-ups.

How else can I prepare my baby for the session?

Keeping your baby awake for 2-3h before the session may help them to be more calm and sleepy during the photshoot. Feeding before you arrive or right when you arrive will ensure that their belly is full and that they are ready for their photos.

Older sibling(s)?

Your other child/children are always invited to be part of the session. The studio has a few toys and books to keep them busy while we photograph the newborn baby. You can also bring some toys from home and snacks to occupy them. Sometimes it is better to start the session with sibiling or family photos, while other times we will do this towards the end (depends on the child's cooperation).

How long does it take to receive the photos?

We understand the anticipation of seeing your photos. It takes between 7-10 to send the initial gallery. Once you make your selections, the editing process can take 1-3 weeks +/-, depending on the volume of images and the complexity of editing required. We prioritize quality and pay close attention to detail in order to produce images that will exceed your expectations.

What if my baby has dry skin, baby acne, redness, jaundice, etc?

First things first—it's completely normal! Newborns in the first few weeks of life often have sensitive skin with visible "imperfections". Don't worry— this is a normal part of newborn life!

The editing process will take care of any temporary spots without losing your baby’s natural features; anything that is NOT naturally part of your baby can be edited out... blemishes, correcting skin tones, smoothing skin, and so on. Keep in mind that most photos you see online from newborn sessions have been edited to some extent... please don't feel bad about your little one's skin!

No need to over-moisturize right before the session (this will create a shine in photos). If you choose to put anything on your baby's skin, consider gently applying breastmilk. Bathing the baby may also make the dry skin appear worse... it's best to leave it alone as much as possible.
